Golden Miscanthus Resort - Tai Mo Shan

Tai Mo Shan is the highest mountain in Hong Kong, with an altitude of 957 meters. Standing on the top, you can enjoy the unobstructed view. When there is no cloud, you can overlook the scenery from Kowloon Peninsula to Hong Kong Island, and overlook Kam Tin, Shek Kong, Yuen Long Plain and even Shenzhen. When encountering a sea of clouds, it is like a misty fairyland. Don't be scared by the number of peaks, you can drive straight along Tai Mo Shan Road. If you choose to climb on foot, start from the country park visitor center and walk along the concrete road to reach the top in about two hours. If you go during November to December, you will find a large area of charming golden miscanthus along the way. Compared to Sunset Peak, which is famous for its miscanthus, Tai Mo Shan is easier to navigate. After arriving at the Tai Mo Shan Lookout, there is a large grassland next to it, where you can have fun and rest with the dogs. Except for the uphill section, which is a little bit hard, Tai Mo Shan is an easy hiking route for novices. Just remember that the newbies must turn back along the road at the highest point. If you go to the Lead Mine Pass and other directions, the difficulty and time will be doubled.

Beautiful view of Melaleuca - Shing Mun Reservoir

Shing Mun Reservoir is a hot spot for outings, and it is also very suitable for bringing dogs to a “forest bath”. From the Pineapple Dam Nature Trail into the White Melaleuca Forest Road, the forest planting area is picturesque and the sound of running water is gurgling. Shortly after the trip, there is a pond beside the white layered pond. The reflections in the water and the trees are intertwined, and every shot is beautiful. Going up to the viewing platform, the quiet forest scene turns into a magnificent landscape in a blink of an eye. If you like the big grass, you can walk along the road to the main dam to the "Shing Mun Picnic Site No. 12" and rest on the grass by the pond. The entire route is mostly flat and easy, with few uphills and downs. However, it is important to note that this area is the habitat of monkeys, and there are also many cattle and wild boars. It is necessary to deal with the reactions and emotions of dogs in the face of wild animals.

  • Route: Pineapple Dam Nature Trail > Shing Mun Reservoir Main Dam > Shing Mun Road
  • Length: 8.8 km (about 3.5 hours)
  • Difficulty: ⭐⭐
