- If the cats "fight" and then groom each other's or sleep together afterwards, you can rest assured that the cats are just playing. But if one of them avoids the other before and after interaction, hisses or even arches its back and puff up its fur, it may really be fighting.
If cats really fight each other, the result can be very tragic. As caregivers we do have a responsibility to handle it carefully, but at the same time we also need to know how to distinguish whether our cats are playing or really starting a fight because being able to play together between cats is a sign of good relationship. If we stop them from contacting each other because we don't know how to distinguish between them, it would be a pity!
